  • A Gift In The Night

A Gift In The Night

Like a dream she came
Gliding out of the night
On high heels
To my door
Hair neatly straightened
Make up fresh
Adorned in a sexy black dress
With matching shoes
And matching smile

*****

My heart skipped to see her
Not just the joy
Of companionship
And cameraderie
Not just the pleasure
Of her voice
Smooth like silk
In my ear
Not just the deep
Abiding friendship
We feel
Not just the gentle
Unforced attraction
We share

*****

But added to this
The flutter of butterfly wings
Her eyelashes
Lightly caressing my face
Her fingers
Warm against my neck
Her lips
Soft against my skin
Her arms
Cradled about me
As we hug
As we slow dance
To the sound of
Distant music

*****

Unexpected, the simple happiness
Brought by the presence
Of another
A delicious feeling
So that now
Hours later
My spirit still bubbles
My mind still milking
The memory of her passing
Like a whiff of divine fragrance
Once smelled
Never forgotten

*****

Even sharing pain
Or sadness
Or loss
Is pleasure
Vitality oozes from her pores
She cries and she dances
And she sings and she talks
She is happy, angry
Sad...
And it is all
Every bit of it
Poetry, to me

*****

This then
This smile etched on my face
This life coursing through my veins
This subtle promise that even
If there is nothing more
Nothing to look forward to
There is this moment
Right now
Which can never
Be taken away
This is her gift
Sweetly delivered
In the still of the night
To me
