a poem for 'Janus'

As the verdant green leaves
fade to feral reds
and a million memes
fight for a billion heads
spread across
vast cultural chasms
and oceans of division and mistrust...

we recall these days
your high seat beside Jupiter
in that age of smooth, neat roads,
daemons and "Meditations,"
phalanxes, coliseums,
and limited dissent...

forgive this our time
of primitive, robotic transition...
of bestial plutocracy,
poisonous pop culture,
and self-righteous pharisees
hubris-blinded to their litany
of nefarious offenses
against the very sun

Two-faced God,
bridge these dark divisions
of war, want, and madness...
and show us the passage
to higher ways
and finer days
