Albatross

There are times when all is well
Cares drift away on ocean swells
The stars align and skies are clear
Life is grand and full of cheer

The sun ascends warm and bright
A glorious day, no worries in sight
Feeling strong and young and free
I look on in awe at all I see

On winds of love, I sail on and on
Reaching off to fetch the sun
Dolphins play and race my bow
The horizon shines devoid of clouds

Days like this are far too rare
For me it seems that life’s not fair
An albatross around my neck
A curse on me, emotions spent

Love and hate and self despair
To find someone for me who cares
It’s such a chore to even try
To reach out as others pass me by

In the end, I don’t even know
Why these storms come and go
They leave me feeling lost and weak
Adrift alone, my future bleak.
