Alert

You know I’m in love with you
The most, with anyone, I’ve ever been.
Does that love frighten you?
Is it the reason you act out
because you fear a love that’s true?

I hope you know I don’t intend to hurt
All I want is to hold, caress and love you.
But that love, too, keeps me alert
For a sign that you’ve stopped caring
reflecting off that, what you do.

Please, you don’t have to be afraid
Like all those times back when
in all those hotel rooms
where in each one, together, we played.

If now it all seems too much
And you’re desperate to soar free
Please, please just let me know
What it is you feel inside
Instead of hoping your escape
will happen through hurting me.

You know I’m in love with you
The most, with anyone, I’ve ever been
But trust is what we need
to enjoy the rich spoils
of our affection.
