Daylight

Sunlight creeps softly into the corners of my room
Woven rays slide in bars across my white linen sheets
My eyes are opened to the world, but I see only you
The new dawn sparking rainbows from your hair
The subtle light illuminating you a piece at a time
The soft shadows lending a new beauty to your face
Features which were so familiar becoming something new
Dust motes float in the beams, giving them substance
Making them look like golden hands caressing you
I long to reach out and bring the image to life
But I'm afraid to do so for fear of breaking the magic
So instead, I close my eyes and watch the light grow
A soft touch on my arm brings me from my reverie
And I see your sleepy smile shining back at me
For me, the daylight pales, and I see a brighter dawn.
