Hills and Longing
Longingly I gaze at the hills
Visible, yet so far.
How I yearn to climb those slopes
Make my circular way
To the those beckoning
Ever hardening peaks
Rest my head my head
In their warm embrace
Allow the rhythm of the world
To put me to sleep
I awaken to the site
Of the undulations of the plains
And make my slow meandering way
Down to the valley below
Stopping every now and then
To sniff a flower here,
Taste a delicacy there
Till I arrive
At the sliver of the river
Through smell, taste and eyes
I try to discern the source
Delving deeper through the layers
Unfolding and moist
But only to the gentlest touch
I smell deeply of the moss
And its unique musty fragrance
And gently tease out
The source of life below
As I drink from this wonderous spring
It seems to respond
And grip my head
in an ecstatic vice
A pilgrimage ends, and I am blessed.
