Janus (Borderlands)

I walk the border between darkness and light
Dance the razor’s edge
Or so that is the claim
Balance I try to and find
But my soul years to shine

I see you, most brilliant and pure
To nurture that glow, bask in your warmth
A powerful fantasy of mind and spirit
never have I seen a light so bright
It draws the dark to quench it

My deepest wish; to protect
To feed that sputtering flame
Inspire your muse
And enfold your essence with my own
Be your castle walls

But I cannot dare
To follow my soul I would falter
Stumble upon the fence
The loads, precarious, I balance
Would forever shift

Reaching for light I fall into shade
My visage becomes clouded
Progressions of thought shift
I turn and rage
To destroy the advancing demons

I close so that evil may not approach
Silver tongue draws you to my side
Clutching me for security
I embrace you at last
As we watch for foes

I realize, too late
I have become darkness
As I try to feed you, you sputter
Asphyxiated by my smothering mantle
Destroyed, as all else, by me
