Judging My Blackness

How dare you judge me
By the color of my skin!
To determine the depth
Of my Blackness within!

You did not birth me
Or buy any of my clothes.
Change any diapers
Or wipe my dirty nose.

Each day for me has been a battle
On the left and on the right.
Then I cry myself to sleep
Alone in the night.

I doubted my blackness
By the things you have said.
I begged for acceptance
As you turned your head.

I?ve read Malcolm X
And Dr. King too
Just to prove I was black
But that was not enough for you.

I soon found that my Blackness
Comes from deep within.
So how dare you go and judge me
By the color of my skin!
