Lullaby for a Gentle One

Sleep, gentle one,
As my arms hold you tight.
Sleep, gentle one,
As our lips have known delight.
Sleep, gentle one,
Lost in a haze of reverie.
Sleep, gentle one,
And dream of a sensual menagerie .
Sleep, gentle one,
Be safe where you lie.
Sleep, gentle one,
You have captured my sigh.

At first, we were irreverent strangers,
Swimming in ephemeral physical encounters.
Serendipity smiled; I smelled your hair from across the room.
Together, me might escape a lonely doom.

But we were shackled by this thing, the past;
Trapped in patterns that would forever last.
To be free, we had to surrender to passion’s gentle touch;
To be free, we had to realize pain didn’t have to hurt so much.

Tonight, you made your way to my bed;
At first I wept, but you swept away my dread.
As new strangers, fueled by a primal need,
A lustful sexual being was freed.

Sleep, gentle one,
Tonight, my heart is in your hands.
Sleep gentle one,
As I wander your secret lands.
Sleep, gentle one,
Who knows if this will last forever.
Sleep, gentle one,
And dream away the word never.
Sleep, gently one,
And rest without fear.
Sleep, gentle one,
I am near, and soon all will become clear.
