Rough Cut

Poems like rough-cut lumber
from some chain-saw mill
cut on the site
where the trees fell,
Let them dry all season
carve them in the fall
another hundred years
as my cabin wall,

Kindling in the stove
Coleman lantern on the hook
no fancy Kindle
just an analog book,
Stubby workman's pencil
reflections on the day
gonna be a cold one
so the experts say,

In the snap of a finger
less than a hundred winters
the world has fully change
for both saints and sinners,
So what would I wish for
if wishing made it so
World Peace and Happiness?
long way to go,

Throw a log in the stove
pull my blanket tight
let my dreams wander
deep into the night,
In the morning, making coffee
I see you, my aberration
wearing just my work shirt
you smile, an invitation,

World Peace and Happiness
slides to second place
you hand me the coffee
I reach to touch your face,
Cabin in the woods
space ship on a cruise
you slide in bed beside me
my love, my life, my muse ...
