The Flight

Boarding the plane of life
I take my seat
Buckle in for the flight
White knuckles grip the seat

Time for take off
We lift off the ground
My stomach in my throat
Ears deafened by the sound

Turbulence is rough
The sky is dark as night
The sun is hidden from view
Not a glimpse of blue in sight

The pilot speaks on the intercom
Tries to calm my nerves
Tells us it will be alright
But still I am unnerved

My heart is pounding in my chest
Fear races through my veins
Lights flash before my eyes
Panic seeps into my brain

The oxygen masks drop
My fears solidify
My life flashes before my eyes
Today I may die

The flight is one of terror
The horror etched upon the sky
I wait for flames to take me
As I openly begin to cry

The visions that I see
Of the life that I have lived
Bring me to my knees
As I try desperately to forgive

Forgive all those who have wronged me
Those who have hurt me
Those who have betrayed me
Those who have broken me

Forgiveness can't be found
The hate is too strong
The tears stain my face
Tragedy is how this ended all along

My destiny is sealed
I resign myself to my fate
Huddled within myself
The end I await

This is life
The flight always has to end
We have our ups and downs
No reason to contend

I cry out for a second chance
For a chance to ease the strife
I cry out for something better
On this flight that is life
