Lost
With a thirst in dire need of quenching
Looking
For that one to fulfill my desire
Longing
For even the tiniest taste
Just to moisten my mouth
Just to wet my lips
I craved the entire ocean
I begged for as little as a drop
There have been those who had not known I was thirsty
There have been those who did, and did not care
There was one who graced me with a sip
Wetting my parched lips
Wetting my appetite for more
One hand holding for what I had thirsted
One hand holding me back from having more
At his feet I laid chained
My heart bound to him
My soul struggling against my restraints
Praying that he may someday
Let me have another drink
Desperately hoping someday
For another drop to spill
I completely tied myself to him
So tight that I could not breathe
Shutting out all around me
Shriveling, withering, dehydrating,
Aching in the silence
Dying for just the promise of another taste
From out of nowhere, a savior
Willing my restraints to break away
The heat of his stare melting my chains
Severing the ropes that had bound me
Shattering the walls that kept me
Freeing me when I was not aware I needed to be freed
Behind him, a vast ocean
Behind him, salvation
Behind him, I will know nothing of thirst
He holds his hand, not away, but out to me
Beckoning me to plunge in
My mouth waters with the anticipation
My heart beats rapidly to be drenched
My soul restless to dive in
But the ocean is an unfamiliar to me
Strange and mysterious
Going on forever with no end in sight
The waters intensely deep and uncharted
Fear of drowning keeps me from running to him
Fear of losing myself in the unknown, grounded
Scared that once submerged, no one will be there to save me
I have spent so long knowing only of thirst
I have no knowledge of how to drink
I have spent my life dreaming of the ocean
I neglected to learn how to swim
Teach me, Sir
