to let go

I still look for you in the snow,
hidden eyes behind the mask.
learning to fly without wings;
you gave me this gift
only to abandon me.

I still seek your wisdom
even though time has run out.

I look in the desert
where we saw pelicans,
so out of place.
Where the sun burned naked flesh
and the dust danced in smoky plums
as we burned through the air...

I look in the river
where you showed me
to see from a different perspective.
Beaten and bruised
against the rocks,
before the sun warmed the sky.

Your in my hollow footsteps
down deserted docks,
voice in the waves
lapping on the sides of the boats.

You are the tiggerlilly on the mountain top,
the shadowed dappling
of the sun through the evergreens
in the summer heat.

You will always be the gold coin
shining in the dust of my memories.
I find you in myself,
even when you belong to someone else...

I have finally learned,
to flow around the rocks.
