Upheaval

Children huddled, worriedly whispering
The smell of burning bacon pervades
Screaming, spitting insults with intent
Clattering of clean, clashing cutlery
Double doors slam, parents divide
Separate rooms, children watching
Parents appear silent, kids disappear
Fading, forgotten by arguing adults
No problem here, a common occurence

Swept under the carpet, cruel words said
Nothing more acknowledged, carry on
Kids exchange knowing sad glances
Preparing for the next onslaught
Upcoming event, no blows land
But still a nasty event will unfold
The unpleasant undercurrent
Dribbles, ripples and rapidly leaks
Till upheaval raises it's ugly head
