Voices On The Wind

Glorious sun,
Crisp Autumn leaves,
Branching arms that
   sway in the breeze.

Barely a trail
By animal feet.
Dawn's new message
   I eagerly greet.

Scurrying here,
Slithering there,
Little creatures
   taking a care.

Screeches on high...
A red-tailed hawk...
Hapless victim
  becomes its mark.

Subtle voices,
Silent sounds,
Acorns dropping
  upon the ground.

Hoofbeats trampling,
Bluejays sharp cries,
The small streambed
   is nearly dry.

Chatters and squeaks,
Old sights, new sounds,
Voices riding
   the wind abound.

A peaceful place...
the forest grand...
Just right for a
 nap in my stand.
