Weary Traveler

When you took me by the hand…. I was weary eyed. I had traveled for so long that my feet were cracked and blistered and my throat ached with thirst.

Yet, I trusted you. You looked deep into my soul causing a stir of what had been so dark for some time. I licked my lips and my thirst changed. No longer was my throat parched but it was something new. I needed you more than I had ever needed anyone in my life.

Your fingers interlaced with mine and a smile grew from within but not yet on my lips. A flame was burning and I needed more.

You lit my soul and every fiber of my being screamed as the smoldering turned to a blaze. And my lips smiled.

My mind was in a frenzy until your hand moved to my waist. This calmed me and the burning blaze became embers. Still warm and needed but understandable and controlled.

In that moment I gave you everything. You gave me your lips on mine, pressed so tight I couldn’t breathe. I ached for more. You gave me praise and songs and still yet, I ached for more.

Driving my addiction for you. To have you, be near you, plead for you, beg for you, and to be with you.

Until you threw water on the embers and they died out. And you didn’t want me. You took away our interlaced fingers, you took away your hand on my waist… you took away the light.

I raised my head to realize once again… my feet were cracked and blistered. My throat was dry. But this time, there was no thirst. I ached for only the end.
