  • Why bleed upon white sand?

Why bleed upon white sand?

Not so long ago, there was a colored man
Sent to war, he fought bravely but sadly died
And when his body was shipped back
His family had lost a son
All for their country
And when no purple heart came in the mail
They stood by his actions content
All for their country
They had given up their boy for a nation
And when his sisters were growing up
Life was hard and times were tough
And to add to all of this was a shadow of hate
They had made the sacrifice then and would do it again
But some of these people just couldn't seem to remember when
Their sons had all bravely fought together

And when they walked the streets
Always having to move when the white man passed
They never thought, why did he fight for this
And when they sat at the back of the bus
Always having to give up their seat
They never thought, why'd we let him die for this

And when the illusioned peace was torn
They thought of the oppression to which they were born
They thought of their son who by the flag was sworn,
To serve and protect their country
When will their country serve and protect them
Or must thier sons go to battle once again
Against the country they love
For all those years, they'd fought for freedom together
And when they came back, where had freedom gone?
Forgotten on the battlefield in a far off land
It's time to grasp each other by the hand
Let's not spill our children's blood...
