A Blackbird Learns to Fly

At about two in the afternoon Meryl's parents showed up for the changing of the guard. Yelmer was there too, scowling and quietly growling at everyone, especially at me.

We said our goodbyes. I shook hands with Jake. Gave Ellen three cheek kisses. Smiled at Yelmer and nodded in his direction (he did little in return). And approached Meryl to give her a hug. She threw her arms around me and gave me one fucking sexy kiss. When she paused she whispered,

-It's you I love. It's you I want.

-I love you too. Always will. But it's time to go. Now be a big girl. And get over it. And learn to love your boyfriend.

I let her go and forced her arms down off of me. She hung her head and started to cry quietly.

-Well, time to go! I almost shouted.

And off we went as if nothing had happened.

On our way to the bus Regina asked me,

-What was THAT about?

-What about?

-Meryl! She almost died as we left.

-No idea. The youth these days.

It was obvious Regina didn't believe me, but no way was I going to inform on myself.

Almost four months later. just a few days ago actually, I heard that Meryl had broken up with her new boyfriend. He didn't have enough experience.

So I had succeeded in breaking her heart not just once, but twice.
