Mr. Brasher was often a visitor. His affection for Abby making him the adopted Uncle that he had wished for. Without realising he had found the familial affection he had missed for all his life. Abby a few years later understands when she finds herself a significant beneficiary in his Will.

Sam lived long enough to hear once more the rhythmic sound of steel wheels on jointed steel track, the clang as un-braked goods wagon were shunted and that never to be forgotten 'pop' followed by rush of steam as the locomotive moved the load. Yet more importantly to him, he had held Abby's daughter Tregonney in his arms when she was christened. Abby's second child, a boy is christened Samuel.
