Amy's Smile Ch. 08

I shrugged. Mr. Congeniality he wasn't, but he had a point. I bought the ticket, then followed him as he escorted me to the waiting plane.

It was one of those small jobs Northwestern keeps for towns with no radar. A dozen seats at best. Ten of them were occupied and every one of those was inhabited by people who looked pissed as hell at me for making them wait. I slunk into one of the two unoccupied seats right across from the restroom and swore softly as that door opened and a six-year-old boy with jelly donut on his face and hands proceeded to crawl over me to take his place by the window.

"Hey Ma," he shouted to a woman all the way at the front where she no doubt tried to pretend she'd never seen the little shit before. "I threw up and now I feel lots better!"

Fuck it, maybe we'd just crash on takeoff, and the whole mess I called my life would be over. If I'd known how the next eight hours were going to play, I might have flown it into the ground myself.

*Author's note: My editor Scott told me that even though he wanted to strangle me when he got to the end of the chapter and still no Amy, he still liked it. Hope the rest of you will be as kind and I assure the next, and definitely last chapter, will finally get that girl back into the story. Jayne
