Strange Days Ch. 48-50

Personally, I didn't think Sarah had been coming on to him either, but I was hopeful she'd get around to it. I loved them both, more than anything in the world. I was so happy with them. The only thing that would make me happier was if they loved each other as much as they loved me, as much as I loved them.

"And that's all?" Paula asked.

I heard Trevor's smile in his reply. "Well, there was this one time that...do you remember Tabitha's party?"

"Of course."

"After everyone left, Sarah and I kind of attacked Amy."

"What do you mean?" Paula snickered.

"I'll put it this way," Trevor paused for effect. "If Amy hadn't been willing, it would have definitely qualified as a vicious gang..." he stopped suddenly, and I cringed, wondering how Paula would react. Trevor shifted beneath me. "God, Paula. I'm so sorry. I'm such an asshole."

I felt her reach across me, probably to touch his hand or something. "No, it's okay. Really." I heard the smile in her voice again. "I know how much you two love her, so it doesn't bother me like you think it should."

There was an uncomfortable silence.

Come on, Trevor, I thought. Don't keep her hanging like this. Make her feel comfortable.

"So, how are you doing?" he asked.

"I'm good," she replied. "I really don't remember all that much. I just remember Amy coming to help me after I called her. I guess...I guess knowing how much she cares about me, how much you care about me...it just gives me something good to focus on, instead of the bad."

Trevor cared about her? Don't get me wrong. Trevor is a really nice guy. Until the fallout with Todd and his friends, seeing Trevor's hands torn up after beating them up, I hadn't thought he could have ever hurt anyone. But still, he barely knew Paula. Right? Or was it that he simply cared about her because I did? You know, the whole 'she's your friend so she's my friend too'.

"I'm glad," he said softly.

They were quiet for a long moment. I got the feeling they were looking at each other.

Then Paula said, "So, I take it you talked to Johnny."

"About what?"

"About me," she said softly.

"Why do you say that?" he asked.

Paula took a deep breath and let it out. "Because he was so distant after everything happened, so angry. He wouldn't let me see him, wouldn't even talk to me on the phone. Then all of the sudden, he was there. He was so supportive, so sensitive to what I was feeling, to what I needed." She paused for a moment, then asked him bluntly. "You talked to him about me, didn't you?"

There was a moment of hesitation before Trevor answered. "We're supposed to take care of the people we love. I just reminded him of that." When he continued, I could tell he was smiling again. "And I may have hinted that if he wasn't up for the job, I might take over."

Paula gasped, but I could tell she was amused too when she whisper-shouted, "You did not!"

"Totally did," I felt him nod.

"Why would you do that?" she laughed quietly.

"Isn't it obvious?" He asked, and I could almost hear the grin in his voice. "You're totally hot, and with Johnny out of the way, I'd get to sleep with both you and Amy."

Paula laughed heartily, and so did Trevor.

Still laughing, she added, "And maybe Sarah too?"

Trevor's laughter trailed off pretty fast, and with my ear against his chest, I heard his heart rate pick up substantially.

"Trevor?" Paula asked gently. "Do you have feelings for her?"

There was a pause, then, "I...I don't know." Then his tone was lighter. "She's certainly fuckable though."

Paula laughed loudly, and Trevor chuckled.

Nice dodge, baby, I thought. Yeah, you'll have feelings for Sarah soon enough. I promise.

I snuggled closer to Trevor and fell asleep.
