I stepped away from the door, shaken and confused. I knew I had to talk to Laurie, but I didn't expect her to come upstairs anytime soon. I left Lisa in the hallway, gathering her nightgown and panties while I poured some water for us in the kitchen.

With my daughter following me, we climbed the stairs, leaving Laurie and Matt alone for the rest of the night.
