Life in the Windspear Moors was hard, of that there was no doubt. Its rocky ground was little use for crops, making even the most humble vegetable patch an unforgiving challenge. The highlands were cool in summer, and buried under wet, heavy snow all winter long. Scrub grass made for decent grazing, though, so it was wool and mutton all day every day.

It was a life. Herds multiplied, nobody starved, and the tall mountains kept the worst beasts away. Their village was prosperous after a fashion, but it was not an easy life. Never easy.

Being just a tiny bit too young the last time army recruiters came, Kaiden was one of the very few able bodied men in town. It was hard work. Many tasks called for a man's strength and there were few enough of those to go around. Even at nineteen, he was only just coming into the fullness of a man's strength, and with only a few others his own age around, much of the hard work fell to him.

Difficult though it was, his situation did come with a few notable perks.

One of which happened to approach just as he was halfway through splitting firewood for the coming winter.

"Got a moment to yourself?" she aksed with a twinkle in her eye and a sway to her hips.

Kaiden laughed, and with an easy swing left the axehead buried in the stump. He straighted to wipe the sweat from his brow, but made no move to replace his missing shirt.

"Good to see you Rose, but weren't you supposed to be pickling beets for Widow Olsen?"

Rose answered with her lips against his, and with the press of her soft body. Axe forgotten, his hands took to the task of unlacing her dress.

"If anyone asks," she breathed as their kiss broke. "That's exactly where I am."

"I really shouldn't," he said reluctantly. "Mr Vintner asked me to swing by just as soon as the splitting was done. Sounded mighty important."

"Then we'd better make this quick," she laughed, shucking off the rest of her clothing and bearing him to the ground.

Four years older than him and with a body to shame a goddess, Kaiden should have been utterly beneath her notice. Had things been otherwise, she would have been long married now, likely with children of her own on the way. These were far from normal times.

Sure, she could have had an easier life if she'd taken up with one of the grey bearded widowers who had propositioned her. Even the old mayor of Bywater Keep - the closest thing they had to a nobleman - had talked about taking her as a third wife.

Rose was something of a free spirit and a romantic, however, and not one to be tied down by a husband thrice her age. She wanted youth and excitement, and wasn't willing to settle. As there were no men her own age to savor, the young man she had so laughingly called "runt" just years ago became the prime target for her affections.

A role he was all too willing to play.

She rode him with wild abandon, wide hips swaying to a music only she could hear as her pussy milked his cock for all it was worth. Rose touched herself, moaning softly as she became lost in her own little world of carnal bliss.

Not every girl was as wildly forward as Rose, but somewhere along the line old inhibitions had eased. Those like her were free to express their affections in a way the community had frowned upon in older days. If anything, it had forced the more reserved girls outside their comfort zones, encouraging them to be a little more forward if they wanted to keep up with their wanton competition.

Rose finished before him, as she so often did. In turn, Kaiden picked up his own pace, lifting up her lush body and rolling her until her back was against the soft dirt. He saw her about to cry out in pleasure, and covered her mouth in another kiss to muffle her screams of passion. However lax they had become, he did not want the village gossips to overhear.

He pulled out just before he was done, spurting across her creamy skin before collapsing at her side in satiated satisfaction. For a brief moment, he pulled her closer, nuzzling against her neck as his arms wrapped around her soft body. In that moment, he almost felt that he could lie here beside her forever, but life was never that simple.

"That was wonderful," he told her, planting another kiss against her neck. "But I really do have to go see Mr Vinter."

She opened her mouth to speak, but he quieted her with another kiss.

"Honestly, I'm late as it is," he said, "But we'll talk later, I promise."

"You'd better," she told him. "I'm not done with you yet, Kaiden Mayfield."

"Never," he told her as he hurried to get dressed, leaving her to take whatever meaning she wanted from his words.

Rose had been hinting at marriage for a while now, most especially when they were lying together on the mattress (or the haystack, or meadow or flower bed). Kaiden had never quite been able to say no, Rose was a hell of a catch by anyone's standards, but he wasn't exactly in a hurry to say yes.

People looked the other way at a youth's dalliances, especially in these circumstances, but a married man's affections were expected to be a great deal more constant. Much as he loved Rose, it was a hard thing to give up on Emmy or Trish or Daisy, to never hold Larkin's pillowy breasts in his hands or feel Harmony's tongue on his cock.

The good times wouldn't last. He was the oldest of the youths, but not the only one. Give them time, and the others would catch up before long. Hard enough to split the town with his friend Hammond, but Timmony was coming of age soon and already the girls were noticing how broad his shoulders had grown. Would Rose become impatient if he kept on dithering? Dare he even risk it?

Besides, the monster war must surely be coming to a close. At any time the menfolk could come marching triumphantly over the hill and back to their homes. What chance would the "boy who stayed behind" have competing against a bunch of war heroes?

Better to be done with it and have Rose as his own forever. There were a lot worse fates than getting hitched to the most charming, beautiful girl in the valley. He resolved to propose soon.

Just, not yet.

Mr Vintner was leaning heavily on his crutch when Kaiden finally found him. Though far from an old man, he had been crippled years ago and thus left behind when the others marched out. He had trouble walking the ranges on a good day, and this was not a good day.

"There have been signs-" he began before a spasm in his leg forced him to gasp, but the man refused to bend. In truth, he shouldn't have been standing, but stubborn pride refused any accommodation with his injury.

"Please," Kaiden said. "Let me get you a chair."

"Damn it boy, I don't need your help!" he started irritably, only to have his leg give out on him altogether.

"Fine," he said. "Fine. Go get it then, damn this thing!"

Most days, he was a nice enough man. Kind, thoughtful, and as keen eyed as anyone Kaiden had ever met. But when the weather turned and his injury flared up, the man's irritable streak came hurling towards the forefront. He'd been a soldier once, and proud. Had he been whole and healthy, it's likely that he would have captained the men they sent to the monster war, but his injury meant staying behind entirely. It had been yet another blow to his proud sensibilities.

Even so, he was (just barely) self aware enough not to let pride interfere with his duty. Seated reluctantly in his rocking chair, the man was finally free to explain what had been troubling him.

"There are signs," he explained again. "Animals missing, tracks and spoor along the forest. I've been tracking it for weeks, but with my leg as it is I just can't range far enough to find its den. I'd wait, if I could, but my boy Hammond's out in there the southern pastures without knowing there's anything amiss, and I'm getting worried about him."

"Did you find out what it is?" Kaiden asked. There were any number of things that could startle a flock. A mountain lion, perhaps. They wandered close every now and again, tempted by easy prey, and were quite the pest for an unwary shepherd.

"Aye, boy, I did," Vinter said, "A werewolf."

"That can't be," Kaiden protested. "There haven't been werewolves this side of the mountain for over a hundred years. Granda said his own grandpappy killed the last one himself."

"And skinned it real good, I've seen the pelt. But this one ain't from the north, it wandered up all the way from down south. Crown garrison's not even at a third of their strength. If a monster was savvy enough, then yes, they might just make it this far."

"I- I'm not sure I'm ready for this."

"Ready enough," Vinter said, which was as high praise as he'd ever handed out. For the past three years, Kaiden had trained with him in his brief moments of free time between chores and women. He'd learned all about the monster lore. How to track, and how to kill. Just in case the king's recruiters returned once again. He'd never thought to need the skills here, or to face them alone.

"You don't need to kill it," Mr Vinter told him. "They're fierce creatures, aye, but very territorial. If you can find its den and poison it, then the creature will take fright. Won't be hurt none, but he'll be out of our hair well enough, and not likely to return a second time."

"But-"

"Speak to Elder Barrow," the man said, "and ask for his totem. It will protect you well enough, if you're careful."

"Then I'll leave as soon as I'm able," Kaiden said.

"Good, good. And please, do find Hammond. I know he's capable, but I am worried about him."

"Don't worry," Kaiden assured him, "I'll keep an eye out."

As a child, the deep woodlands had always been his own endless playground, but today the muted sunlight cast a sinister shade. These trees provided no safe haven for him, not when they sheltered a werewolf. The wolves were fearsome things. Bad enough that they were stronger than even the brawniest men, they were also fleet footed enough to chase down a horse at full gallop.

Cursed as they were, the wolves lost no intelligence compared to the humans which had once spawned them. Were they not too territorial and quarrelsome to gather into armies, they might actually be as potent a threat as the southern trolls or goblins. The existence of wards, totems, and other magical protections also helped. There were tales of wolf mages, true, but those were little more than legends. They had no schools, no armies, and no way to pass down the arcane knowledge that might defeat those protections. Thanks to that, humankind was safe.

As safe as one could be from such terrors. Safe enough that someone like Kaiden could venture out against a creature who could tear him limb from limb yet still hold confidence in his success. Still a far cry from harmless.

He was two and a half days out before he found the first tracks. They were subtle and hard to read, but he was practiced enough to know them for what they were. Without the warning, he would have never recognized them as belonging to a werewolf, but their origin was clear enough once forewarned.

More worrying was that there had been little sign of Hammond. The flock he had found early on the second day, but all signs of his friend were days old at best. Disturbing, to say the least. Hammond wasn't the sort to shirk his duties, and Kaiden couldn't help but wonder where he had gone.

He feared the worst, but there was no sign of struggle. On the third day he found tracks leading deeper into the woods. The steps looked hurried, and he must have been spooked to abandon the flock, but still there was no sign of violence or injury. With luck, his friend had turned towards the village and was already safe at home. Either way, Kaiden's task was the same.

It was another day before he found signs of the wolf's den, another night spent nestled in the branches of a tree hoping werewolves were poor climbers. The beast was denned somewhere along one of the unnamed mountain streams that fed into the Misty river. The moving water and rocky shore made it hard to discover the exact location. He had taken enough of the wolfsbane potion to foul the den beyond use, but not so much that he could afford to be careless.

From time to time, he had the most uncomfortable feeling of being watched, but never was there any sign of pursuit. Kaiden clutched the amulet closer, but told himself that he was being foolish.

Not until late afternoon did he finally make progress. He had just finished checking one of the caves behind a small waterfall when he heard a noise coming from the brush up past the riverbank.

"Ham?" he whispered softly. "Is that you?"

There was no response, and he felt foolish for asking. It had been the first words he had dared utter that entire day. Kaiden slipped up the bank, noiselessly brushing past the foliage. There was a soft, snorting huff just ahead, and Kaiden froze. In the stillness, the sound repeated.

He knew he should turn back and continue his quest to find the den. There was nothing to be gained from confronting the dangerous beast, but he trusted his talisman and curiosity won over fear. He pushed aside the last leaves, and for the first time in his life he saw a werewolf.

A GIRL werewolf, he immediately noticed. Even at first glance, there was absolutely no question about the creature's sex. Not when her legs were splayed lewdly in front of him, her fingers were working at her gaping slit.

Not only female, Kaiden noticed, but beautifully so. He had never considered the creatures as anything other than hideous monsters, but his eyes showed that she was nothing of the kind. Her body was lean and lithe, with feminine curves displayed prominently, and even proudly. A fierce and muscular body, to be sure, but with a sense of dangerous beauty like nothing he had ever seen. The soft, black fur covering her body did absolutely nothing to hide her large, shapely breasts, and even her fur was surprisingly pretty.

Kaiden leaned forward, not realizing what he was doing until the branch snapped under his weight and sent him sprawling to the ground in the middle of the clearing. Her head snapped towards him, and Kaiden thought he was done for, but the wolf girl didn't attack. If anything, she spread her hips further and bared her body to him.

"So you're what everyone's been afraid of?" Kaiden said wondrously, starting to move closer. Fear was giving way to curiosity, and even a bit of desire. Inside his trousers, Kaiden felt himself stiffen.

"You know, you're actually kinda cute." he told her, smiling disarmingly. The wolf girl whined in almost doglike fashion, but there was something deeply human in her bestial eyes, and the desire he saw in them was plenty familiar.

"You want some help there?" he asked, taking another step closer. She growled, but the need in her body could not be denied.

This was crazy, he knew, utterly and and completely insane. Still, she was desirable beyond any human girl he had ever seen, and how many people could say that they had bedded a werewolf?

He stepped into arm's reach, but she flinched back from his touch, eyes fixed on the totem hanging from his neck.

"Oh, right. I'll bet you don't like that, do you?"

He reached for the neckstrap, only to realize how foolish he was being.

"You're not going to eat me if I take this off, are you?" he asked, fingering the charm. This was a foolish and insane risk he was taking, and he knew it, but he wasn't thinking with his big head right at that moment.

The wolf girl growled something, which sounded surprisingly like the word "No", though it was clear that her throat was not suited for human speech. She shook her head, whining with need.

Staring at her sexy body all the while, he hurried to strip away the last of his clothing.

"No," she growled again. "No, no."

But despite her protests, her eyes were glued to his naked cock. She responded to him immediately, clutching Kaiden to her with hungry need as he buried himself in her ready pussy. The wolf girl's powerful legs had circled his waist, gripping him so tight that his hips hurt. It was strange, coupling with a woman that could easily overpower him at any second, but utterly exhilarating all the same. At any moment, she could have torn him apart with her jagged claws or ferocious teeth, but instead they made love beside the riverbank.

The wolf girl needed him in a way that no girl ever had. Even eager Rose was made to look like a skittish prude in the face of the werewolf's animalistic hunger. Kaiden drove into her furiously, unleashing days worth of pent up tension as he took her with wild abandon. Still it took everything he had just to keep up with her.

His mouth latched onto her breast, nibbling on her bare nipple while her tight opening milked his cock furiously. Her howl of pleasure made him all but jump out of his skin, but it was so wild and unrestrained as to nearly drive him mad. He let out a yell of his own, reveling in the freedom from restraint or propriety.

He spent himself inside her hungry cunt, but she wasn't done with him yet. Not by a long shot. Her powerful arms gripped him tight, refusing to let go for even a single instant. The strength of a werewolf put his paltry human muscles to shame, and there was not a single thing he could have done to refuse her.

Fortunately, he too was far from done. In practically no time at all, her spasming pussy had milked his cock back to full hardness.

Round two was something more sedate, but only in the way that a thunderstorm is more sedate than a flash flood. It was still wild almost beyond belief, more intense than any coupling he had ever enjoyed save for their first.

But just as he came close to finishing within her for the second time, the wolf girl froze. Kaiden paused, wondering if he had done something wrong. He was just about to ask when he realized that she was looking behind him. He turned, but it was too late.

A lancing fire shot through his shoulder as a snarling weight descended upon him. It pressed down on him, growling ferociously at his ear a single clawed hand closed around his throat.

Before he could even understand what was happening, Kaiden found himself flipped over, his wounded back pressed against the hard granite surface. Towering above him was a nightmarish monstrosity of fur and tooth and claw, slathering with rage as it pinned him down.

"S-Sorry," Kaiden stammered, though it was getting hard to breath. "I didn't know that-"

A snarling bark silenced him as the fanged maw snapped shut inches from his face. The hand closed tighter, and Kaiden's breath cut off completely.

This is it, he thought, this is how I'm going to die. The totem sat uselessly just a few feet to his side, tantalizingly close but ever so slightly out of reach. Even if he had it, Kaiden found it impossible to imagine anything turning aside such a ferocious beast.

Just as he thought the end had come, Kaiden was suddenly, unexpectedly saved by the she-wolf he had so recently lain with. Not through force of combat, for even her own overpowering strength seemed useless against this threatening monstrosity, but by distraction.

She reached out, taking his jutting member into her clawed hands. That face which had so recently been thrown back in pleasure now leaned forward with hungry tenderness as she licked at the wolfman's shaft. The hand at Kaiden's throat loosened, then released entirely as he turned his attention on the eager she-beast.

The wolfman growled, still savage but with a very different intonation than he had used moments earlier. He pounced on the wolf girl, driving her hard onto her back as he took his place between her legs. Nursing his injured throat, Kaiden couldn't help but watch in voyeuristic curiosity as the two frantic wolves coupled with one another.
